About D3TaLES

Mission:
Accelerate the capacity to discover and develop LES materials by combining novel domain knowledge with machine-enabled modeling and autonomous synthesis and characterization

D3TaLES D3TaLES was conceived from the idea that truly novel advances in the discovery and design of liquid-based energy storage (LES) materials will require synergistic efforts that both create new domain knowledge in materials science and capitalize on the mass collection, creation, analysis, and modeling of curated data via tools such as machine learning (ML). Our mission, to exploit data science to fill knowledge gaps and accelerate our ability to discover and develop LES materials, is enabled by the construction of an interdisciplinary network of collaborators who have expertise in materials design, characterization, and deployment, autonomous experimentation, and data analytics and ML. In total, our synergistic research, infrastructure, and workforce development activities will situate Kentucky and Iowa as leaders in addressing the critical and growing need for energy storage capacity.

D3TaLES Leadership Structure

D3TaLES leadership, built from a foundation of shared governance, is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers that bring distinctive perspective to each of the project’s research and outreach objectives. Further, D3TaLES seeks to empower our postdoctoral, graduate, and undergraduate scholars to take on leadership positions within the project and provide opportunities for personal by professional growth beyond the laboratory. D3TaLES Principal Investigators and Senior Personnel include:

Principal Investigator:
Chad Risko, Associate Professor of Chemistry, University of Kentucky

Co-Principal Investigators:
Baskar Ganapathysubramanian, Joseph C. and Elizabeth A. Anderlik Professor in Engineering and Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Iowa State University
Sara Mason, Associate Professor of Chemistry, University of Iowa
